Howa Mini Action 6.5 Grendel Accuracy

I like the Boyds pro varmint, how well did it fit? Did you have to do any fitting, did you bed it?

I thought it fit really well , no fitting needed and didn't bed as it leaves a free float gap on mine .

Just installed new action is same stock. All fit well except the DIP bottom metal. Won't strip the last round, sometimes 2 rounds out of the mag.
Thinking I will have to inlet the metal deeper so the rounds will strip out as designed.

I had heard that Boyds fixed their milling for the Howa bottom plate, but would not hurt to check. Pull your action screws out and just put finger pressure on the rear, then just the front, and see if the opposite side lifts off the stock.

Boyd's did indeed fix the bottom inlet. No play with the DIP BM for me, and feeds correctly. Something is awry I'd bet.

My two Boyds stocks had the angle corrected. I did find though that I had to remove a slight amount of wood from both the front and the back action bolt areas to get the feeding reliable. I actually made pillars first that would feed 100% reliably. Then I removed the wood so that they were the same measurement (or less) as the pillars before epoxying the pillars in place.

Good info. Will work on the BM fit this week. Start with removing fasteners and check the fit.

Making the pillars first is a great idea and it would definitely show any deficiencies in stock fit immediately.

My assumption was that Boyds left a little extra "meat" on there just to make up for potential variances. They do state that these are not 100% inletted stocks, and I would rather have a little extra material to play with. So I was pleased with their product. It was all I could do to keep myself from taking advantage of Boyd's and Brownell's black Friday deals. There was almost a 300 win mag barreled action and a Boyds Classic stock coming my way this weekend.

Congrats on that shooting and I have to be that guy but 3 round group is a little small. How's the brake on it? That's probably the last thing I need to complete the build

I like the brake so far SureFire brand and lets me stay on target through the scope after the shot not that the Grendel needs a brake but what the heck.
I am only hunting with it so a three shot group is fine with me :-)

Load was 123 gr SSt over 28.6 gr of 8208 xbr with Rem 7 1/2 primer loaded to 2.321

Just trying to get a general consensus on the factory barrel performance. I own a Howa chambered in 6.5 Grendel (non threaded barrel / HTI factory stock version )and have been some what disappointed with the shot group. I think have tried just about every factory load I can get my hands on and the best it does is 1.5” @ 100 yards. Does this seem normal for this rifle ?

I just relocated the barreled action into an MDT LSS chassis and am hoping to see a little improvement, or at least more consistent tight-groupings.

My howa likes the BRN-1 MDT chassis from Brownells. 123 SST handloads, different seating depths from the chassis. It didn't care for factory loads and is a bit picky with handloads, too, but most of those have been run with the factory stock and a lower power scope. [ATTACH=CONFIG]13324[/ATTACH]
