This needs to be under a new thread entitled: "Future Force Warrior/Objective Force Warrior/Force 21/Land Warrior Developments" or something along those lines. As we have seen proof-of-concept demonstrators wearing crazy R2D2 intestines and Star Trek scanners, thinking it is far-fetched, we then see the RDT&E models, followed by initial production and fielding of said systems, like Land Warrior, with a lot of positive reception from originally skeptical and highly suspicious soldiers such as myself.

There are actual beneficial capabilities represented by many of the Land Warrior components and the concept as a whole offers a totally new way to look at warfare when you think about coordination, communication, and efficient use of resources.

The main driving concept is to over-match any enemy force with technology, capabilities, training, and the ability to project force more rapidly than previously thought possible.

I saw a write-up in a gunrag a while back about that M14 and the bullpup chassis.
the chassis costs as much as the rifle you start with.

the F35 helmet, which is the type described in the Future soldier pic, costs around $100K each. Based on that, I don't see Pvt. Joe Snuffy getting issued one any time soon.
