I check each case for length before reloading. Anything over length gets trimmed. Out of 100 cases that have been fired between 8-12 times and annealed every couple of firings, I get about 5 cases requiring trimming. I trim cases so the extra length doesn't cause the case to be crimped onto the bullet when/if it hits the lands in the throat. Crimping the case onto the bullet by the lands would raise pressures considerably, and that is something that causes they type of inconsistency in pressure and velocity that I wish to avoid.

There is no need to trim if you don't have to...I don't do it because I enjoy the extra work. I do it so I don't cause myself problems with excess pressure.

Like an old timer told me: "Excess pressure will always find a way out, and it is rarely cheap, pleasant, or safe when it does so."
