    6.5 Grendel Barrel Help???

Hello, brand new to this forum. I am building a 6.5 Grendel and looking for help with barrels. I have a few barrels that are in my price range. I am trying to decide between a 20" chromemolly Doublestar from JT distributing for $329, a 24" stainless Satern barrel from brownells for $315 or a custom 20" fluted stainless with cerakote finish of my choice from Dead Shot Barrels for $400. All barrels are heavy contour with 6.5 bolt included. I am leaning towards the Dead Shot Barrel because of the custom options that I want, but not sure of the quality. This rifle will be for long range hunting and recreational long range shooting and I think I prefer the 20" barrel length. I am looking for true MOA accuracy but not worried about .25 MOA as I am not at that level myself.

Have you check out the group buy that is going on? Verified correct chamber and will also save you money...

I actually just came across these guys when I was trying to decide what barrel to purchase in October. Not alot of info out their on them but they have had several very appealing auctions on gun broker with custom features. My inability to find anyone who had actually shot one is the reason I didnt pull the trigger: pun intended.

Based on your criteria you could go with any one of these you mentioned and me happy. The biggest thing I would tell you to go after is an SAAMI Chamber and a true .136 grendel bolt since your budget would allow that. If you have an SAAMI chamber your much more likely to end up with a rifle that likes factory hornady ammo as well as other benefits. Do you have any time constraints? That is usually a big factor as a custom barrel maker like dead shot probably has a lead time. Last I check though it was only like 4 weeks which is really good. I would lean towards dead shot since it will be an actual custom barrel built to your specs but I would ask them if they are using an SAAMI chamber or a variant. With all the crazy variants out there you never know exactly what your getting.

Thanks for the responses. I have emailed Dead Shot asking them about chamber and bolt specs. They said they use .125 bolts because they are stronger. They properly headspace each bolt to each barrel for match level accuracy. They also said they have their own chamber which has tighter tolerances than SAAMI and many customers who have Dead Shot chambers/bolts that outshoot their AAs with SAAMI chambers. They guarantee them to handle ANY 6.5 Grendel ammo. They seem to stand behind their claims, but.....once again, conflicting internet info has me at a standstill.

No company is going to say that their product is WORSE than their competitors. I was under the impression that .125 depth was used because you could just swap in a 7.62x39 bolt and call it a day. Which then led to extractor failures.

Dead Shot may well make great products, but until I hear first hand accounts I'd spend that kind of money on a well-known quantity.

Why would Bill Alexander, the engineer who brought the Grendel to market, use a .136 bolt face if the .125 was stronger? Answer; He wouldn't. Check out the pdf in this post and see if you still want a .125 bolt. http://www.65grendel.com/forum/showt...l=1#post112063

Go 18"-20" more than that will get you like 25 yards more reach.

Man that makes it a tough call, alot of companies are using type I bolts even with SAAMI chambers now. I am assuming its because the 7.62x39 bolt is more available. I dont like that they using their own special Grendel chamber design. Could be great, but might not be as well. I just posted a little review on the 20" barrel I purchased from AR15part.com. Something like that may be a good fit for you.

Odin works has there DMR 20 inch barrel with BCG selling for $405 including gas block you need to pony up another $12 for a gas tube. Mine shot .750 .825 and .750 for the first 3 three round groups. Called it a day as it would hit a deers heart out to 400 yards. MY rifle with votex 4.5 x 20 42 mm scope mount 15 inch rousch sports kmod hand guard with 3 sections of rail mounted and a tricked out adjustable stock come in at 10 lbs even.

Odin is now using SAMMI chamber vs .264 LBC.

It says a 7.62x39 BCG will not function properly so that says Type II to me. They also say its a SAAMI chamber so two thumbs up there. Looks like they have a few barrel options including a 22" bull barrel which would be cool as heck but also heavy. http://www.hardenedarms.com/ecProduct_596_64
