My understanding is the Type II when talking bout the grendel is meaning the bolt face depth not the type of bcg.

Unless some company has started listing a bcg they sell as type 2, and that's just dump because a grendel uses standard ar15 bcgs.

You are correct, Type II refers to the bolt having the .136 head spacing. There is no difference in the carrier but I was quoting them as saying that a 7.62x39 BCG wont work. I am sure they are referring to the bolt alone but that is the language on their site.

Checked on all the barrels yall have mentioned.aR15part.com is down cuz of shot show. Odin works barrel out of stock. The hardened arms barrel looks promising but their bcgs are expensive making it not so good a deal and they say barrels are melonited AND chrome lined? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of meloniting? I don't want a chrome lined barrel for this long range hunting rig. Would like to see the ar15part.com barrel when sight comes back up. Odin works looks very tempting but heavy, I got on email list back in stock. I'm still considering dead shot though. I may be a glutton for punishment but they just offer some custom options I have really wanted at a relatively affordable price. Are there any fluted heavy contour barrels out there? I haven't been able to find any, other than custom

I am new to 6.5grn too and have searched a lot for options on a budget first build. I have one of these arriving today:

I could not find any real info on it but it looked interesting so I thought I would play Guinea pig...

My 10.5" 5.56 upper runs like a champ.

Also note for the OP, for the 6.5 bcg, all you need is the correct bolt. Drop in any carrier and you are GTG. So worth giving them a call to see if they will sell the upper with a bolt only.

Wow, that seems like a good deal. Very interested to see how this barrel works for you! I wish they offered a 20".

Just tried the DEZArms barrel today. Only fired 12 rounds to test function/grouping. Swabbed between each shot but best of four groups was right at 1.3". Too early to tell but will try the 16" Sabre barrel when it arrives. (Testing only the Hornady 123gr black label at this point.)
*I don't consider myself a "precision ar builder but hoping for sub moa with factory ammo

Unless something has changed with Nitriding I was under the impression treating Stainless with it was a bad idea. Search it.

I am no chemist or metallurgist but that does not seem to be a problem... Only that CM gets more benefit than SS from the process
A lot of questions asked about what the advantages are and what the process is. Many barrels out there are treated barrels such as some of them from AR Performance, here are a couple of video's to learn more: Advantages Melonite Process: In case you can't view from Mozilla, here are the links:

                            This maybe worth a read.

Hornady Black Ammo has some reviews pointing it to being less accurate that Amax and SST

Great info! Thanks! Did not know Hornady black was not rising to the accuracy level of the amax... Thanks for the Intel!

I put one of these in my first, and so far only AR build but with straight flutes. I am VERY new to long range shooting (have probably shot 15 rounds out to 100 yds before this build). I am trying to learn the mechanics of shooting using a bipod and squeeze bag with old eyes and shaky hands so my groups are probably not a very good gauge of these barrel's accuracy. I have shot maybe 100 or so rounds through it so far. The second pic is one of my better groups. Pretty certain it's more my fault than the guns though.
