    RAP Grendel & Feed Problems

I read everything posted about the RAP in 6.5 Grrr but I had the opportunity to get one at a great price and picked it up.
I pretty much need to do everything others have mentioned. I cycled some Federal factory rounds through my already reliable 4 and 10 round mags in it. Only the 4 round ASC seemed to work OK in it. (All the mags rock substantially). Most of the mags fail to feed the last cartridge. Period. All of them need coaxed to pick up the shells which hopefully will lesson as it's used.
Didn't fire it yet. I still have to finish cleaning the molasses Ruger calls oil off the other parts and re lube.
The ASC mags have already been "Dremeled" so they worked 100% in my AR. Feed ramps will be touched up and I need to take the action off the stock to make sure it is true to the barrel length and not off-centered as others have posted on other forums.
In PA, if I want to hunt whitetails, a bolt is the only Grendel option off the shelf. Unless this rifle feeds 100%, it won't be in the woods with me this winter.
I'll throw some range stuff on it's paper-punching abilities after it's broken in some and I know I have a free-floated barrel. I have a Nikon Buckmaster fine cross hair dot reticle in 4x18 40mm not doing anything that I'll put on it at this point.
Not shocked but still a little disappointed. Any other suggestions are welcome. It's staying in the green factory stock.
    TIA

There should be a thread on this fourm not too old. Maybe one or 2 pages back, of what a few members did too help their RAP grendel feed better.

Make sure you check the scope rail all my bolts were loose and very well oiled. Cleaned and reinstalled with blue locktite. I polished the feed ramp on my Grendel RAP

Started the barrel break in and found both my (4) capacity Elander mags work very well in this RAP. (The factory Cp 10 rounder will see action only in my AR). No accuracy shots as all I did was get the gun on target shooting off-hand at 60 yards. I put 5 Hornady Black ELD-M's down the pipe cleaning after each shot. I noticed it didn't need near the patches that my AR required per shot during it's break in. I also cycled Blacks and some reloads of ELD-M's and Gold Dots through the Elander Mags outside in a safe environment and the cycling was much much better including no issues picking up and chambering the last round. No hiccups at all. Now I feel a whole lot better about this gun. I'll move on to the range cleaning after every 5 shots for awhile. Then we'll see how it shoots from a bench with sandbags and some more factory shooting of Blacks, Fusion MSR and the Hornaday Custom SST's.
PS.I did touch up the feed ramp and I took your advice on removing, cleaning and applied blue Loctite on the screws securing the scope rail. There was an excessive amount of oil under it. The barrel fit on the stock on mine is very good and I have no binding using heavy paper between the barrel and the stock. When I can shoot successive shots enough to get the barrel hotter, I'll check for any binding while it's warm/hot.

Please keep us updated....I am in the market for a bolt gun to go with my Ar and I have always had great luck with the Ruger American rifles.

            Hi Tony,

Hornaday Black ELD-M 123 gr shoot between 0.7 to 0.9" MOA at 100 yards very early in the break in of this gun. I was holding off posting until I had more ammo including reloads through it but I am very happy with mine. The factory mag didn't feed well initially. I touched up the feed ramp on mine and went with unaltered Elander 4 and 10 round mags I already owned and it feeds great with them. I have less than 20 rounds through it and it's great to see < MOA already. With a 6 x 18 Nikon on it, the stock could have a little weight in the back but I actually don't have an issue with the factory stock. This is going to hunt. It's light and comfortable. No rifle should have to have the end customer swap out mags and polish a feed ramp so there is that disappointment but for under 400 bucks my cost, this is going to be a very nice setup for my purposes.

That is great news I have 200 rounds of the black at the house and will start to reload when I get a 100 or so pieces of brass....I don’t mind doing a little polish and buff where needed and all I have are elander mags right now

Sounds like the rifle I will want....and you are right a nice hunting setup is what I am looking for..
