I usually don't chime in with this kind of info but since it has already been mentioned, Natchez has some great deals on Nikon's MONARCH 5 scopes. A buddy and I both picked one up because the price was so good! Nikon's MONARCH 5 has ED glass and is some of the clearest glass Nikon makes. You can dial in the Advanced BDC reticle using Spot On for excellent longrange accuracy too. If you want a heck of a scope for a great deal check out what they have to offer.

I'd suggest you look at the Leupold VX3i scopes (improved VX3). Modern version of the old Vari-x III, a step up from what was likely a Vari-x II in your dad's old 3-9x. I'll be putting a VX3i 3.5-10x on an older Rem M700 in .257AI in the next month or so. Upgrading from an original Nikon Monarch 3-9x that I moved to another rifle (the Nikon is a decent scope, in and of itself). I've found the VX3i I'm looking for around $320 or so online several places. I'll then have 3 Leupolds in the lineup, a VX5HD 3-15x44, the VX3i 3.5-10x40, and a VXR Patrol 4-12x42 (on my Grendel).

One question is does he care for tall or short turrets?Last edited by Nodak; 10-05-2018, 07:52 PM.
