Would the 16" gas system still function fine if I cut it down to 13.7" and pin and weld it?

It should. The 16" barrel does have a 9" mid-length gas system so, worst case scenario, you may need to open the port slightly. Dwell time will be short with this combo but it should work.

It's looking like late summer right now but with C-19, anything is possible. The entire firearms industry is sideways right now and that even affecting raw materials. I can't imagine that it will get any better anytime soon with a very polarizing election coming up (not to mention the additional chaos going on in the world right now).

Hey Curt, in the old thread, you mentioned posting shots of the finished barrels, and after they were bead blasted. I would like to see those so I can decide if I need to get mine bead blasted.

I love the bead blasted finish. It's easily one of my favorites. Fair warning though, if you get it scratched or nicked up, it's not easily "restored". A bead blasted barrel is best suited to sit under a long rail if aesthetics are a major concern. The second picture shows a blasted barrel along side a "factory" finished Lilja (with a stainless G2 Fat Bastard).

I have a couple bead blasted heavy barrels that I slightly nicked while installing the gas block.The 3M pad with some CLP made the marks disappear forever.
