biggest improvement ive seen was going from the harris type to an atlas type bipod if im honest , im using cheap 40$ clones that work great in the dirt like i said i just put the legs to a forward 45* angle and its easy to load them and have them stay put

i do , do a few tweaks to the pivot mec in them though

Thanks mel. That's interesting. I'm sorta invested in Harris at this point; don't feel like buying another tripod (I have four: two Harris and two UTG). So it makes the best sense for me to go ahead and try out my newly spiked Harris (9-13" I think it is).

For anyone else here who's interested in trying spikes, I will say that these spikes I have are very well made. Perfect slip fit over the leg ends. IMO, exactly as large as they need to be and no bigger, unlike some. I found that I did need to chase the cross-holes with a drill bit, as they were undersized slightly. Too small for the 1/8"? roll pins that Harris feet need. Probably a metric thing.
